This semester the ESL group will take part in a project, they will get into a different environment that will provide them a great opportunity to discover interesting things about Brazil and England.
At first, they will notice how big Brazil is by observing a map of the country and through the map make them identify where we live in Brazil. They will be also able to identify some national symbols, such as our official flag and some landmarks from Rio de Janeiro which also represents Brazil’s image abroad.
While they analyze the globe, they are going to realize that there are many other countries, and that they can be big like Brazil or smaller like England. They will also learn a lot about England and the national symbols of this place, such as the Clock Tower or Big Ben, the London Bridge, the London Eye, the double deck bus and the telephone cabin that represent the country to the world.
To emphasize that English is a very important language, we are going to introduce them a Brazilian artist that sings in English. This artist is going to be Caetano Veloso. Caetano was born in Bahia and then became a well-known and famous artist throughout Brazil. But in 1969 he had to move to England because of our historical moment, “Dictatorial Government”. In England, he composed London London, a song that describes his feeling of freedom and this lyric is really full of details that are going to be explored along the semester. At the end, we have the intention to build a Clock Tower made of cartons of milk, that is a landmark from London and sing at least the chorus of this amazing song.
The students will have the opportunity to know more about English culture and discover interesting things that will be really relevant for their lives, such as eating habits, customs, more about English language and other curiosities that will be presented along the semester. It will be an enriching experience for them and for the whole school.
